The Studio
Urethane is an independent software studio. We build security and privacy tools for people who don't want to think too hard about staying safe online — and for people who think about it all the time.
We don't have a VC-funded roadmap or a growth team. The tools exist because they're useful. They stay useful because we keep them simple and don't monetize your data.
The studio operates under California law and all services are provided from infrastructure hosted in the United States.
What We Build
Urethane currently maintains four tools under one platform:
- File Scanner — malware detection via VirusTotal, metadata extraction and stripping for documents and images
- Link Checker — URL safety analysis for phishing, malware, and reputation
- Breach Monitor — credential leak detection via BreachDirectory's database
- Temp Mail — disposable, real-functioning email addresses for privacy-conscious use
These tools run independently but share one account system. The platform is subscription-supported. The free tier exists because we think security tooling shouldn't require a credit card to access at all.
We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. We don't build behavioral profiles. The business model is: you pay for more capacity, or you use what's free.
Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Urethane Studio ("Urethane," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the services available at urethane.site and any associated subdomains (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or legal guardian's permission to use the Service and that they have read and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements. We reserve the right to terminate accounts we believe are held by individuals who do not meet these requirements.
2. Account Registration and Security
Certain features of the Service require you to create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep that information updated. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this obligation. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that show signs of unauthorized use, abuse, or violation of these Terms.
You may not share your account credentials with any other person. Accounts are individual and non-transferable. You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits — doing so will result in termination of all associated accounts.
3. Subscription and Payment Terms
The Service is available on a free tier and a paid Pro tier, currently priced at $5.00 USD per month ("Subscription"). Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly basis through our third-party payment processor, Stripe, Inc. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel.
All fees are non-refundable except as expressly stated in these Terms or as required by applicable law. If you cancel your Subscription, you will continue to have access to Pro features until the end of the current billing period. Your subscription will not automatically renew after cancellation.
We reserve the right to modify our pricing at any time with at least 30 days' notice. Continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new pricing.
If your payment fails, we will attempt to notify you by email. Failure to resolve payment issues within 7 days may result in downgrade to the free tier or suspension of your account. We are not liable for any service interruptions caused by payment failure.
4. Free Tier Limitations
The free tier is subject to usage limits as described on the pricing page and in our documentation. These limits may be modified at any time with reasonable notice. We do not guarantee that the free tier will remain available indefinitely. We reserve the right to discontinue the free tier with 30 days' notice.
5. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Upload, transmit, or distribute any content that is illegal under applicable federal, state, or local law, including but not limited to child sexual abuse material, content that infringes intellectual property rights, or content that constitutes harassment, defamation, or threats
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service, its infrastructure, or any account other than your own
- Use automated tools, bots, scrapers, or scripts to access the Service in a manner that exceeds normal human use or that places unreasonable load on our infrastructure
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service, including rate limiting, authentication, or access controls
- Use the Service to scan files, links, or email addresses on behalf of third parties as part of a commercial service without our written authorization
- Use the temp mail feature to engage in spam, phishing, fraud, or any illegal solicitation
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
- Use the Service in any way that violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation
Violation of these prohibitions may result in immediate termination of your account without notice or refund, and may be reported to appropriate law enforcement authorities.
6. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party APIs including VirusTotal, BreachDirectory, Stripe, Resend, and mail.tm. Your use of these services through our platform is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of these third-party services. We make no warranty regarding the results returned by third-party APIs and disclaim all liability for any loss arising from reliance on such results.
7. Service Availability and Modifications
We do not guarantee that the Service will be available at any particular time or that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes or planned downtime.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the modified Terms, you must stop using the Service.
8. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by using the account deletion feature in your account settings. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of any prepaid subscription fees.
We may terminate or suspend your account at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Reasons for termination include but are not limited to: violation of these Terms, fraudulent activity, non-payment, or suspected illegal activity. We are not liable for any losses resulting from termination of your account.
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Urethane Studio collects, uses, and handles information about you when you use the Service. This policy applies to all users, including guests who do not create an account.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: Email address, username, and password hash (we store a bcrypt hash, never the plaintext password)
- Payment information: Processed entirely by Stripe. We do not receive or store credit card numbers, CVVs, or bank account details. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID.
Information generated by your use
- Usage counts: How many scans, link checks, and breach checks you perform each month, for the purpose of enforcing rate limits. We do not log what files you scanned, what URLs you checked, or what email addresses you searched.
- Session data: Session tokens, approximate login location (city-level, derived from IP), device type (derived from user agent string), and login timestamps. This is used to show you your active sessions and allow you to revoke them.
- Temp mail data: Temp mail addresses and associated messages are stored in our database for the duration of the address's lifetime. Messages are permanently deleted when the address expires or is deleted.
- Server access logs: Standard web server logs including IP address, request path, timestamp, and response code. These are retained for a short period for security and debugging and are not used for profiling.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To enforce usage limits and prevent abuse
- To process your subscription through Stripe
- To send account-related emails (OTP codes, subscription confirmations)
- To maintain the security and integrity of the Service
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for advertising purposes. We do not use your information to build behavioral profiles or infer personal characteristics beyond what is necessary to operate the Service.
3. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained for the lifetime of your account. Deleted when you delete your account.
- Session data: Expired sessions are purged automatically.
- Temp mail messages: Deleted when the associated address expires or is manually deleted.
- Usage counts: Stored by month. Historical usage data older than 12 months may be deleted.
- Server logs: Automatically overwritten on a rolling basis, typically within 30 days.
4. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA). These rights include:
- Right to Know: You have the right to request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, our business or commercial purpose for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete personal information we have collected about you, subject to certain exceptions permitted by law.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information. This right is therefore not applicable, but we affirm it here for clarity.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your California privacy rights.
- Right to Correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address provided in the Contact section. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days as required by law.
5. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS for all data in transit, bcrypt password hashing, session token randomization, and server-side rate limiting. However, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, data breaches, or hardware failure will never occur. You use the Service at your own risk.
6. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.
Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") supplements the Terms of Service and governs the specific ways in which you may and may not use the Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms of Service.
Permitted Uses
You may use the Service for lawful purposes including: scanning files you own or have permission to scan; checking URLs for your own safety assessment; monitoring your own email addresses for breach exposure; using temp mail addresses for personal privacy purposes; and accessing the Service programmatically in accordance with our rate limits for your own personal or internal business use.
Prohibited Uses
The following uses are expressly prohibited and may result in immediate termination and reporting to law enforcement:
- Uploading files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any illegal content regardless of the stated purpose
- Using the temp mail system to conduct phishing campaigns, send unsolicited bulk email (spam), or facilitate fraud of any kind
- Using the link checker to validate URLs for use in malicious campaigns
- Probing or testing the security of the Service without express written authorization from us
- Reselling or sublicensing access to the Service
- Using the Service to violate any applicable export control laws or regulations
- Any use that violates the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (18 U.S.C. § 1030), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, or any equivalent state or international law
Rate Limit Circumvention
Creating multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits is prohibited and constitutes a material breach of the Terms of Service. We use automated systems to detect such behavior and will terminate all associated accounts upon detection.
Enforcement
We reserve the right to investigate any suspected violation of this AUP. We may take any action we deem appropriate, including issuing warnings, suspending accounts, terminating accounts, or reporting conduct to law enforcement. We are not obligated to provide notice before taking action.
Intellectual Property
Our Property
The Service, including all software, design, text, graphics, logos, interface elements, and documentation, is the exclusive property of Urethane Studio and is protected by United States copyright law, trademark law, and other applicable intellectual property laws. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.
The URETHANE name and logo are trademarks of Urethane Studio. You may not use our trademarks without our prior written permission. Unauthorized use of our trademarks may violate trademark law and could result in legal action.
The source code of the Service is proprietary and confidential. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the Service, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits such activity notwithstanding this restriction.
Your Content
You retain all rights in any files, URLs, or other content you submit to the Service. By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We claim no ownership over your content and do not use it for any purpose beyond service delivery.
Because files are not stored after scanning, this license terminates automatically when the scan is complete. For temp mail messages, the license terminates when the message or address is deleted.

If you believe that your copyrighted work has been copied or used in a manner that constitutes infringement and is accessible through our Service, please notify us in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512). Your notice must include: identification of the copyrighted work; identification of the infringing material and its location; your contact information; a statement of good faith belief that use is not authorized; and a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
WE MAKE NO WARRANTY REGARDING THE ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF SCAN RESULTS, LINK SAFETY ASSESSMENTS, BREACH DATA, OR ANY OTHER OUTPUT PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE. RESULTS FROM THIRD-PARTY APIS (INCLUDING VIRUSTOTAL AND BREACHDIRECTORY) ARE PROVIDED WITHOUT WARRANTY AND SHOULD NOT BE SOLELY RELIED UPON FOR SECURITY DECISIONS.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, URETHANE STUDIO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF GOODWILL, SERVICE INTERRUPTION, COMPUTER DAMAGE, OR SYSTEM FAILURE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100 USD).
SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR LIABILITY. IN SUCH JURISDICTIONS, OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Urethane Studio and its operators, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to your violation of these Terms or your use of the Service, including but not limited to any content you submit, your violation of any third party's rights, or your violation of any applicable law.
Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply to these Terms.
Jurisdiction
You agree that any legal action or proceeding arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts. If you are a consumer in the European Union or a jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protection laws, this clause does not waive any rights you may have under those laws.
Informal Resolution

We will attempt to respond within 30 days. This informal resolution requirement does not apply to claims for injunctive or other equitable relief.
Class Action Waiver
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOU WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OR CLASS-WIDE ARBITRATION AGAINST US. Any dispute must be brought on an individual basis.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms will otherwise remain in full force and effect and enforceable.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Urethane Studio regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings relating to the subject matter hereof.
